New Jersey State is making over their license plates and are now joining the ranks of 22 other states that issue digitally printed license plates. The current New Jersey license plates that are yellow with black lettering will remain, however instead of the embossed characters on the license plates, the characters will be digitally printed. New Jersey started printing the digital license plates on April 1, 2014 when they stopped making the embossed plates.
A spokesperson for the Motor Vehicle Commission says that “The flat plates are far less labor intensive to produce and are better able to stand wear-and-tear that sometimes led to cracks on the embossed versions.” New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission states that they will continue to issue the embossed license plates until the current inventory runs out and will no longer issue registration decals that adhere to the upper right-hand corner of license plates on passenger vehicles, motorcycles, commercial vehicles and personal and commercial trailers.
Keep in mind guys and gals, that with these new digital plates, the plate image will be much sharper thereby making photo and video enforcement just that much better.
